Zoloft (sertraline) is a SSRI drug that is efficient for the treatment of a number of psychological conditions, such as depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder and social anxiety disorder. It can be also prescribed to treat some of the symptoms of premenstrual dysphoric disorder, including breast tenderness, irritability and bloating. Although Zoloft is tolerated pretty well by most patients, sometimes you may develop a number of side effects. These side effects are generally short-lived and go away after several hours. However, if any of the following side effects persist it’s important that you call your health care provider and ask for professional advice: nervousness, constipation, headache, dizziness, drowsiness, nausea, changes in sex drive or ability, excessive sweating, dry mouth, pain, burning, or tingling in the hands or feet, gas or bloating, loss of appetite, sore throat, weight changes, diarrhea, vomiting, excessive tiredness and any other symptoms that you develop. If you think you may have taken too much of the medicine make sure you report it to your local emergency center. The symptoms of an overdose include diarrhea, vomiting, dizziness, seizures, hallucination, fainting, drowsiness, hair loss, irregular heartbeat, trouble falling and staying asleep, unconsciousness and changes in sex drive. Do not take this drug in larger amounts that prescribed as this may worsen some of your symptoms.
